The Church, dedicated to the Holy Savior (Iglesia de Sn. salvador), was a two-story frame building, the lower part of which was used as a store. It stood on what is now the east side of Commerce street (then "fourth street"), between Main and Franklin streets, at the place commonly known as the "center of Natchez." The burial ground or graveyard was the lot on which now stands the stately Cathedral (St. Mary Basilica) and its adjacent rectory.
It is certain that the name of the church was San Salvador, because the original Book of Records of Baptisms during Spanish times, begun in 1788, makes frequent mention throughout its entries of the parish church of "Sn. Salvador de Natchez," and so it is called in the Book of Records up to the time the Spanish left Natchez.
