St. Mary Basilica's richly ornamented bronze bell, named Maria Alexandrina, was cast in Rome by the sculptor, Giovanni Lucenti, and donated by Prince Alexander Torlonia and his wife, Maria. the bell which weighs almost three thousand pounds was blessed by Bishop John Joseph Chanche on May 26, 1850, and installed the following day.
