Annual Cemetery Procession
Each year members of St. Mary Basilica and Assumption parishes honor and pray for the deceased loved ones on the first Sunday of November.
In a church announcement from November 1861, Bishop William Henry Elder proposed that "the congregation gather at the old Catholic cemetery, chant Vespers for the Dead, process to the new section (Catholic Hill) reciting the Litany of the Saints, and then, bless the cross in the new section.
