

Holy Water Basins
The two marble holy water basins in the basilica are in the form of a scallop shell. The memorial plaque is dated 1859. During this year and into 1860 Bishop William Henry Elder completed the interior of his cathedral, Our Lady of Sorrows.
The donor's name is James Grillo. Bishop Elder's "day book" for January 9, 1861, states: "setting of Holy Water Vases –bill of Polkinghorne and Rawes (May 1860) –$5.00".
